“Those things absent in Heaven”

Revelation 21:1,22-23

1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.

22  But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.    23  The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb [is] its light.

Introduction:

Things that seem so absolutely essential here and indispensable now will be absent there for a good reason. Consider some of these beneficial absences.

1.   Rev. 21:22 – Did not see a temple there

22 But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 

Matthew 24:1

1 Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. 

2.   Rev. 21:1 – There was no longer any sea

Rev. 22:1-2

1 And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb.    2 In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, [was] the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each [tree] yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree [were] for the healing of the nations.

3.   Rev. 21:4 – There will be no more death

4 "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."

7.   Rev. 21:4 – He will wipe away every tear from their eyes 

4 "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." 

8.   Rev. 22:5 – There will be no more night    

5 There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever. 

2 Corinthians 4:6

6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to [give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 

9.   Rev. 21:23 – There will be no need for the sun or moon 

23 The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb [is] its light. 

10.  Rev. 21:25 – It's gates will never be shut 

25 Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there). 

Isaiah 60:11

11 Therefore your gates shall be open continually; They shall not be shut day or night, That [men] may bring to you the wealth of the Gentiles, And their kings in procession.
