Warnings about Salvation Philippians 3:1-7 1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. For me to write the same things to you [is] not tedious, but for you [it is] safe. 2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the mutilation! 3 For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh, 4 though I also might have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so: 5 circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, [of] the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee; 6 concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. 7 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Introduction: The Gospel message is a wonderful message isn't it? There are two kinds opf religions in the world today which have always existed and will until Jesus arrive. They are religions of Faith and Flesh. Paul sends out a warning to the Philippians against the Judaizers sharing with them the role he once lived. 5 warning signs about salvation 1. Don't trust in a rite: vs 5 (circumcised on the 8th day) Romans 2:25-29 25 For circumcision is indeed profitable if you keep the law; but if you are a breaker of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. 26 Therefore, if an uncircumcised man keeps the righteous requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision? 27 And will not the physically uncircumcised, if he fulfills the law, judge you who, [even] with [your] written [code] and circumcision, [are] a transgressor of the law? 28 For he is not a Jew who [is one] outwardly, nor [is] circumcision that which [is] outward in the flesh; 29 but [he is] a Jew who [is one] inwardly; and circumcision [is that] of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise [is] not from men but from God. 2. Don't trust in a race: vs 5 (stock of Israel, tribe of Benjamin Hebrews of Hebrews) John 8:31-36 31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." 33 They answered Him, "We are Abraham's descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How [can] you say, 'You will be made free'?" 34 Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 "And a slave does not abide in the house forever, [but] a son abides forever. 36 "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. 3. Don't trust in religion: vs 5 (as touching the law a Pharisee) 4. Don't trust in Christian service: vs6 (concerning zeal, persecuting the church) 5. Don't trust in your own righteousness: vs 6 (blameless) Conclusion: Except a man is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. What are you trusting in. -
